Terrance Johnson Earns SWAC First-Team Nod As Men & Women Place Fourth At Conference Championship

Pine Bluff, AR.– On a meet day featuring a lot of solid competition, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s and women’s cross country provided a strong showing at the 2023 SWAC Conference Championship in Tallahassee, FL., at the Apalachee Regional Park.

Both programs placed in the top four overall with a score of (96 pts.) on the men’s side and (110 pts.) on the women’s side. Junior Terrance Johnson was named to the all-conference first-team.

On the women’s side (5K), UAPB had three runners placed in the top 25, led by senior Akili Pleas Carnie, who placed 12th with a time of 20:53.2. Senior Abigail Pinnock was next across the finish line for the Golden Lions at the 21st slot with a time of 21:04.0, followed by sophomore Kris-Ann Plummer, who placed 22nd with a time of 21:07.1.

Junior Shaunia McFarlane placed 26th with a time of 21:20.1, followed by junior Kaiel Kimble, who placed 29th with a time of 21:29.8, while junior Jada Turner finished 34th with a time of 21:49.4 to round out the showing for UAPB.

On the men’s side (8K), Johnson led the pack, placing fifth with a time of 27:27.3. Freshman Inertia Mugethi made his first conference championship debut, placing 12th with a time of 28:01.4, followed by senior Rio Williams, who placed 19th with a time of 25:51.4 wrapping up the Golden Lions scoring in the top-25.

Junior Ryan Longmire placed 28th with a time of 29:36.1, along with junior Genesis Joseph, who crossed the finished line in 32nd with a time of 30:11.3, and senior Tarik Xavier rounded out at 55th with a time of 37:53.4.
