JONESBORO, Ark – A fight over DNA testing in the West Memphis 3 case is now heading to the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Almost 30 years ago, Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, and Jason Baldwin were convicted as teenagers for the death of three West Memphis boys.

Decades later the three were released under an Alford plea which allowed them to maintain their innocence, but that’s not enough. Damien Echols wants to clear his name using DNA testing.

According to Jonesboro Television Station KAIT-Channel 8, last year, a Crittenden County circuit court rejected Echols’s request to have the evidence tested. On Monday, Jan 9, Echols’ attorney filed an appeal to the Arkansas Supreme Court, in the hopes that it could help lead them to the real killers.

At this time, there has been no formal response from the high court.
