The UAPB Golden Lions baseball team delivered one of their most complete performances of the season this past weekend, securing a road series victory over the Prairie View A&M Panthers, scoring 43 runs throughout the series.
The Golden Lions capped off a strong weekend in Prairie View, Texas with a commanding 12-0 shutout victory in seven innings on Sunday, clinching the series two games to one.
The win marked a significant milestone for the Golden Lions, who entered the series struggling away from home but left Prairie View with their first road series victory of the season.
Offensive Firepower Sets the Tone
UAPB’s bats were a major factor throughout the weekend, highlighted by a 22-8 run-rule victory in Saturday’s opener.
In that game, the Golden Lions erupted for 22 runs on 18 hits, showcasing depth across the lineup. Players like Lazaro Alvarado and Aaron Grant sparked the offense with timely hitting and run production, helping UAPB build an early lead and never look back.
Even in Saturday’s second game—a narrow 10-9 loss—the Golden Lions showed resilience, battling back multiple times before Prairie View used a late rally to steal the win.
Dominant Pitching Seals the Deal
Sunday’s finale belonged entirely to UAPB’s pitching staff. The Golden Lions held Prairie View scoreless, limiting the Panthers to just five hits in the 12-0 shutout victory.
Ryland Morin earned the win on the mound, delivering a composed performance while the bullpen preserved the shutout. Meanwhile, UAPB’s offense continued to apply pressure, plating runs in multiple innings to put the game out of reach early.
A key moment came late when UAPB broke the game open with a bases-clearing hit, part of a decisive inning that sealed the run-rule win.
Turning Point for the Season
The series win represents more than just another conference victory—it signals momentum for a Golden Lions squad looking to climb in the SWAC standings.
After entering the weekend with just one road win, UAPB flipped the narrative by winning two of three games in convincing fashion, including two run-rule victories.
If the Golden Lions can carry this balanced attack—powerful hitting combined with efficient pitching—into the coming weeks, they could become a dangerous contender down the stretch.
UAPB now turns its attention to the mid week match-up with #22 Arkansas on Tuesday, April 14, at Dickey-Stephens Park in Little Rock, AR. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm broadcast live on Deltaplex Radio’s 99.3 The Beat presented by Central Maloney Inc.
