Boll Weevils Begin New Era as Gary Goff Headlines UAM at 2026 GAC Football Media Days
Hot Springs, AR — A new chapter officially began for the University of Arkansas at Monticello football program as the Boll Weevils took center stage at the 2026 Great American Conference Football Media Days, where first-year head coach Gary Goff introduced his vision for the program and set the tone for the upcoming season.
The annual preseason event gave coaches and student-athletes from across the Great American Conference an opportunity to discuss expectations for the 2026 campaign. For Arkansas-Monticello, however, the spotlight was focused on the arrival of Goff, an experienced Division II head coach who takes over a program looking to climb the conference standings. Goff was named the Boll Weevils’ head coach earlier this year after previous successful stops at Tiffin, Valdosta State, and McNeese.
Speaking with members of the media, Goff emphasized building a disciplined, competitive culture while stressing accountability, player development, and consistency on both sides of the football.
The Boll Weevils enter the 2026 season with renewed optimism as they prepare to compete in one of NCAA Division II’s toughest football conferences. Goff noted that the team’s offseason workouts and summer conditioning have produced positive results, with players buying into the new coaching staff’s philosophy and expectations.
Arkansas-Monticello returns a mixture of experienced veterans and promising young talent, giving the coaching staff confidence that the program can make significant strides during the upcoming season. While Goff acknowledged there is still work to be done, he believes the team is headed in the right direction.
The Great American Conference once again features a competitive lineup of programs, and every game will be critical as teams battle for postseason positioning. Arkansas-Monticello, a GAC member since the league’s formation in 2011, hopes to reestablish itself as a contender under Goff’s leadership.
