UAPB Baseball: Golden Lions Give Up Late Runs Falling to UALR 7-1
The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions traveled to Gary Hogan Field on Tuesday looking to spark their offense, but a late surge by the Little Rock Trojans proved to be the difference in a 7–1 setback.
For much of the contest, UAPB stayed within striking distance thanks to a solid effort on the mound. The Golden Lions held Little Rock scoreless through the first two innings before the Trojans broke through in the third. A pair of RBI plays gave Little Rock an early 2–0 advantage, putting pressure on a UAPB offense that struggled to generate consistent production.
Despite scattered hits throughout the game, the Golden Lions were unable to capitalize on key opportunities. UAPB finished with seven hits but managed just one run, which came late as they attempted to mount a comeback.
The game remained competitive into the later innings, with UAPB’s pitching staff keeping the deficit manageable. However, the turning point came in the seventh inning when Little Rock erupted offensively. The Trojans plated five runs in the frame, highlighted by timely extra-base hits and capitalizing on defensive miscues, blowing the game open and extending their lead to 7–1.
On the mound, UAPB starter Jack Hasten battled early but was tagged with the loss, while Little Rock’s bullpen delivered a strong performance to secure the win.
The Golden Lions showed resilience late, putting runners on base in the ninth inning, but were unable to push across additional runs as Little Rock closed the door.
With the loss, UAPB will look to regroup and improve its offensive execution heading into its next matchup, with Arkansas Baptist. First pitch is set Wednesday March 25, at 3pm at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
