A program for young people that has been around for about 15 years has a new director and he is hitting the ground running.
Wabbaseka native and former Arkansas Razorback basketball player Ernie Murry is the Executive Director of SOAR (Students of Achievement and Responsibility) which meets at First United Methodist Church at 200 W. 6th Ave.
Murry was a guest on Talk Back Live with Floyd Donald who asked him to explain what the program is all about.
A mission statement from the organization describes SOAR as “an empowering program that equips students spiritually, academically and socially with the opportunity to excel.”
Donald asked Murry to explain the reference to spiritually and Murry responded this way.
SOAR will be conducting a summer program from June 11 to July 9th which will include field trips to Magic Springs and the Clinton Library. Breakfast and lunch will be served and Murry said there is no cost to attend.
For information or to sign up, contact Murry at 870-329-2926 or Program Director Anita Smith at 870-592-2795.
