According to Seark Today, James Slaughter, a 10th Judicial District Drug Task Force officer, has announced his intent to run for Drew County Sheriff, according to a news release announcing his candidacy.
Slaughter said he is “excited to bring new ideas to the Sheriff’s Department and to Drew County” and “will work hard to keep our county a safe place to live.”
Slaughter is a 1993 graduate of Fountain Hill High School and has worked in law enforcement for the past 11 years. He started his career in March 2011 as an auxiliary deputy for the Drew County Sheriff’s Office and was later hired as a full-time deputy. He went to work for the Monticello Police Department in 2014 and is currently assigned to the 10th Judicial District Drug Task Force, according to the news release.
“My focus,” Slaughter said, “will be to enforce the law, lower the crime rate, and have an effective investigative department.”
