Luke Matheson, who covered a fire at the adult detention center Tuesday told Deltaplex News that when he interviewed Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr., the sheriff appeared “mad”.

Woods was asked about that when he appeared on the Oldies 1013 morning show Thursday.

Woods said Josinnie Johnson, 31, has to be isolated and cannot be around other detainees at the jail. He has jumped on jail staff members and assaulted them.

Johnson is currently being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond and has been held since April 2022. A motion filed by his Public Defender to reduce that bond was denied and Woods said Johnson’s family members won’t post bond or him because he has assaulted them. “It’s a challenged to deal with him,” Woods said.

The sheriff said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
