Over the past few months, law enforcement agencies are reporting an increase in the number of convicted felons who have been arrested because they had guns.

Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show Friday, Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. was asked about that.

Woods went on to say that his department has been making those types of arrests monthly.

Federal law provides a minimum five-year sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm and Woods said people convicted serve almost all of that time.

He was also asked about an uptick in crime in neighboring Pulaski County and said law enforcement agencies are working together to try and reduce that.
