The Sheridan Mayor and City Council are asking for applicants for a vacant position on the council.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, Second Ward Council member Norman Frisby resigned this past summer because he was upset with a decision by Sheridan Police Chief Jason Teague not to enforce the mask mandate ordered by Governor Asa Hutchinson.

The newspaper reported that Sheridan Mayor Joe Wise and council members are looking for registered voters in the Second Ward who are interested in serving on the council. Persons interested are asked to write a letter explaining why they want to serve, and the council will review the letters and decide who would be best to serve.

The person chosen will serve the remainder of Frisby’s term, which has about two years left, and unlike state and county offices, the person selected will be eligible to seek the office in an election.

Letters should be sent to the Sheridan City Council, P.O. Box 44, or hand delivered to City Hall.
