Sheridan hires new Athletic Director

The Sheridan School District named former Yellowjacket girls head basketball coach Rick Treadway as their next Director of Athletics with a unanimous vote from the Sheridan School Board at Monday night’s meeting.

Treadway is the current assistant athletic director and girls head basketball coach at Pulaski Academy.

He spoke with Deltaplex News about the job, saying it was a phone call from head football coach Kevin Kelley that got him to thinking about the job. He and Kelley worked together for several years at Pulaski Academy.

 

Treadway said he could coach for a few more years then retire, but he a new venture at Sheridan has him excited.

He said after speaking more with Kelley he believes Sheridan is where he is supposed to be.

There are other coaches at Sheridan Treadway has a relationship as well.

In total, Treadway has 811 wins over 42 years of coaching, which ranks #4 in Arkansas. He has won 23 Coach of the Year honors and coached in three Arkansas high school All-Star games. His teams have won 21 conference championships, made the state playoffs 36 years, advanced to the state semifinals 10 times, and the state finals in 2016.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Rick Treadway’s character and experience return ‘home’ and take the reins of the Sheridan athletic department,” said Dr. Karla Neathery, superintendent of the Sheridan School District. “Coach Treadway was a long-time, outstanding contributor to this school, the athletic department, and the community, and we couldn’t be more excited to announce his return. Everyone who knows him talks at length about his integrity and leadership skills, and we believe he will be a positive guiding influence for our student-athletes and coaching staff.”

Treadway received his bachelor’s degree from Harding University in 1981 and completed his master’s degree in Education from Harding in 1982. Treadway played collegiate basketball for the Bisons, finishing as one of the top assist and scoring leaders in the university’s history.

Treadway and his wife, Keely, have three adult daughters who were raised in Sheridan, three sons-in-law, and seven grandchildren.
