Another shopping rite of passage will soon be going by the wayside. Sam’s Club has announced that receipts checked at the exit will not be done by employees, but instead will be done by a new high tech camera system. The system will utilize AI and has already been deployed at more than 120 locations nationwide with more to come. The technology was unveiled by Walmart executives in January at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The CPO of the company said the goal is to get customers in and out more quickly. As customers leave the store, the AI-powered system will capture images in their cart and verify that all items were paid for. They said the new exit experience was added after feedback from customers. It is expected to be in all clubs by the end of this year.
