For the first time since 1998 the Rison Wildcats will be on the search for a new head football coach after Clay Totty was named head football coach at Wynne High School following a 5-0 vote by the Wynne School Board.

Totty compiled a record of 242-65-1 with two state titles during his tenure at Rison, and led the Wildcats to a semi-final appearance in 2022 with an 11-1 record, falling to eventual Class 3A state champion Charleston. He is also the state’s winningest active coach.

According to the Cleveland County Herald, the Rison School Board met Thursday night to accept Totty’s resignation as head football coach, head boys track coach, athletic director and high school teacher after they received confirmation that Wynne’s School Board voted to hire him. Totty’s resignation will be effective December 21, which will allow him to begin his new duties as head coach of the Wynne Yellowjackets staring in the Spring 2023 semester.

Totty will replace veteran coach Van Paschal who went 46-15 during his tenure with the Yellowjackets.

Paschal resigned from the job in November.
