It was announced Thursday at Friday night’s game between Pine Bluff and Watson Chapel had been cancelled “due to weather”. Watson Chapel released the news in a Facebook post which stated:
The Watson Chapel at Pine Bluff football game scheduled for tomorrow night, Aug. 28,2020, has been canceled. Both school district’s Administration agree it is the best thing to do because of the weather and circumstances beyond our control.
DeltaplexNews.com reached out to both school districts for more information on the cancellation. Pine Bluff School District Superintendent Barbara Warren told us that it was Watson Chapel who cancelled.
We reached out to Watson Chapel Director of Athletics Leslie Henderson who told us that three coaches have tested positive for COVID-19, in addition to players having to quarantine due to and unrelated close contact case.
“Watson Chapel has followed all directives and guidelines relating to COVID-19,” said Henderson. “We had three coaches test positive. We also had a couple of players quarantined due to a totally unrelated close contact case. We thought it was best to go ahead and agree to cancel the game.”
