For the month of April, Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services responded to a total of 401 calls, 46 fewer than for the previous month.

Appearing on the Oldies 1013 Morning Show Friday, Fire and Emergency Services Chief Shauwn Howell talked about that number.

Howell said that the monthly report indicated that there were no large industrial fires or wood fires but rather 13 structure fires primarily involving single story residences. The report showed five structure fires in Ward 1, 1 in Ward 2, 4 in Ward 3 and 3 in Ward 4.

“If that’s the biggest thing we have to deal with we will take it,” Howell said.

Morning Show host Greg Horne then asked about the number of medical calls firefighters respond to each month.

Horne then asked Howell how often firefighters beat ambulances to a scene.
