A rash of fires burned a lot of acreage in Jefferson County last week, taxing the resource of a number of volunteer fire departments who were battling the blazes.

Thanks to a mutual aid agreement, firefighters from Pine Bluff also got involved, according to Fire and Emergency Services Chief Shauwn Howell.

Howell then went on to say this.

Howell appeared on the Oldies 1013 morning show Friday and was asked by Greg Horne about the manpower of the department versus the manpower of volunteer departments.

Howell said that because of the mutual agreement, no money changed hands and his department did not deplete its resources to help those volunteer departments.
