Winford Wayne Cody, 77
1977-2024

Winford Wayne Cody, 77, went to his eternal home on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in Leola surrounded by his family. Born January 12, 1947, in Pine Bluff, he was the son of Marvin Wayne Cody and Hawteen Ard Cody Gardner. Winford was a 1965 graduate of Watson Chapel High School and in 1969, he entered the United States Marine Corps, serving proudly as a Sergeant during Vietnam. In 1974, he began his 38-year career at Cotton Belt Railroad, retiring in 2012. He was also the former owner of Wayne’s Gulf in Dollarway.

During his retirement years, he turned his focus to the Lord and showed his love and faith by devoting himself to the AWANA program and the food pantry as a member of Leola Missionary Baptist Church.

He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He thoroughly enjoyed every moment he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spending time with his friends and family always brightened his day.

He loved all things outdoors and working with his hands. He was a huge sports fan, especially when it came to the HOGS! Of all things he enjoyed doing, spoiling his dog, “Baby”, was his favorite.

Winford was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, John Henry Gardner; sister, Marveine Cody Pickard King; and daughter-in-law, Vicky Vance Cody.

He leaves behind his beloved and devoted wife and best friend, Mary Kaye Cody; brother, John A. Gardner of Colorado Springs; sister, Jo Ann Gardner McLemore (Roger) of Pine Bluff; two sons, Jeff Cody of Pine Bluff, and Chris Cody (Tamyra) of Sheridan; three daughters, Leslie Cody Browning (Marshall) of White Hall, Amanda Cody Masters of Sheridan, and Tracy Lynn Akines (Danny) of Jefferson; his grandchildren, Greg Blackwood, Justin Cody, Kerian Trigleth, Alyssa Phipps (Travis), Bryan Akines, Cody Clark, Joshua Masters (Katie), Cooper Cody, Tatum Cody, and Ella Grace Akines; great-grandchildren, Corbin, Lakeland, and John Michael; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 26, 2024, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son followed by a memorial service at 3:00 P.M. with the Rev. Richard Sullivant officiating.
