Charles A. Coit, 92, of Almyra, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, in the company of his wife, Sue.

Charles was born January 25,1932, in DeWitt, Arkansas to William Samuel Coit and Mildred Coit. A hard worker from a young age, Charles began helping his parents sharecrop when he was just in the third grade. He finished school with an 8th grade education and continued aiding his family by working. At 20 years old, he was drafted to serve in the Korean War. He served dutifully as a sergeant in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. Charles was the first local person to be hired at Lennox in Stuttgart, Arkansas where he worked for 19 years before retiring at the age of 62.

Fishing and deer hunting were favorite past times of Charles’s, but he found the greatest enjoyment in gardening. Above all, Charles was a family man. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He provided faithfully for them and cared for them until his passing.

He was preceded in death by, father, William Samuel Coit; mother, Mildred Coit; first wife, Sadie Ruth Coit; son, Charles Lester Coit; and brother, Billy Joe Coit.

He is survived by son, John Bill Coit; grandson, Jesse Coit; and great grandson, Waylon Coit; and current wife, Sue Henderson Coit.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. February 27 at Essex Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 February 28 at First Assembly of God Church in DeWitt with burial in Thompson Cemetery.
