Bobby Joe Matthews, 88
1935-2024

Bobby Joe Matthews, 88, of White Hall, was a loving family man who loved hunting, playing his instruments, serving the Lord and telling jokes.

He went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024 in Rison.

Mr. Matthews was born April 24, 1935 in Arkansas County, son of Joe Mathews and Beulah Revels Mathews. When he was born, the birth certificate spelled Bobby’s name with two Ts instead of one and he and the family never corrected it.

In his younger years, he worked as a commercial fisherman and trapper. He owned and operated Matthews Plumbing for over 50 years.

Mr. Matthews served as a Pentecostal pastor for over 30 years, retiring from Humphrey Pentecostal Church of God.

He enjoyed playing his guitar, mandolin and fiddle and hunting deer, turkey, squirrels and rabbits. Mr. Matthews was a loving and devoted family man who made sure his family always knew he loved them and he will be missed dearly by family and friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jewell Matthews; son, Mike Matthews; brother, Sonny Mathews; and sisters, Elsie Bates, Lucille Curbow and Annie Sebourn.

Survivors include children, Becky Neu (Nick), Anita Matthews and Mark Matthews (Amy); two sisters, Holly Persons and Ruby Haller; grandchildren, Josh Robertson, Leslie Richardson, Melissa Brown (Adam), Scott Matthews (Candice), Leann Reed (Brad), Katie Holmes (Tyler), Braden Matthews and Brooklyn Matthews; 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in the Chapel of Robinson and Fuller with Brother Bradley Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Orion Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Robinson and Fuller.
