On September 17, 2023, at approximately 7:01 P.M., Officers were dispatched to 1404 Avondale Drive, in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, Officers noticed a black female slumped over in the driver’s side seat of a grey passenger vehicle at 1402 Avondale Drive. The female, later identified as 28-year-old, Takyrra Scott, had been shot one time in the head and once in the hand. Scott was transported to JRMC where she later died from her injuries.
Officers located a second victim, a black male, later identified as 25-year-old, Deandre Thomas, lying on the ground with a black handgun in his hand. Officers advised Thomas’ finger was still on the trigger when they found him unresponsive with one gunshot wound to his head. Thomas was transported to JRMC where he later died from his injuries.
Officers attempted lifesaving measures on Scott and Thomas until firefighters and paramedics arrived on scene.
Officers located a witness who stated she was sitting outside in her vehicle near Scott’s residence (1402 Avondale Drive), when she saw Thomas run to Scott’s vehicle and got in. The witness stated Scott was sitting in her vehicle when Thomas got in. The witness stated she heard gunshots then saw Thomas exiting the vehicle as if he wanted to shoot her. The witness stated she backed her vehicle up as Thomas started running towards her vehicle with his gun pointed at her. The witness stated Thomas stopped running approximately 3-4 houses away from Scott’s residence when he shot himself in the head.
The witness also stated Scott and Thomas have dated in the past.
