A Monticello man was killed early Monday when the motorcycle he was riding was hit head-on by a vehicle in rural Calhoun County.

According to a preliminary report. Steen T. Halley39, was westbound on Arkansas Highway 274 at 4:40 a.m. on a 2002Yahama when a 2002 Chevrolet that was eastbound on the highway collided with the motorcycle as the two were passing. After impact, he Chevrolet stopped on the left shoulder of te road and the motorcycle came to rest in the westbound ditch.

Halley was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death was the 520th so far this year on the state’s highways.
