A mobile testing unit for the Corona virus will be set up in McGehee on April 20, according to the McGehee Dermott Times News.
In a story April 15, the newspaper said that the Arkansas Rural Health Partnership, McGehee Hospital, Mainline Health Systems and the City of McGehee have partnered with UAMS to bring the UAMS mobile COVID-19 screening unit to Southeast Arkansas.
The unit will be set up at the McGehee Men’s Club from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The location was reportedly chosen because of its central location between Dumas, Lake Village, Monticello and Warren.
A team of eight UAMS staff members will man the unit with trained local volunteers. People who come to the testing site will remain in their vehicles and staff members will ask a series of questions. If a test is warranted, a swab will be taken and sent to the lab for a COVID-19 test. People who were tested will be notified of the results by phone and there will be no charge for the evaluation and testing.
According to UAMS, the evaluation clinic is for anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms including coughing, shortness of breath and fever but not everyone who is sick needs to be tested.
