One of the biggest complaints about the Go Forward Pine Bluff Sales Tax initiative has been that it hits poor people harder than rich people.

Both the Pine Bluff and the state chapters of the NAACP have used that claim in their opposition to a May 9 vote to extend the tax for an additional seven years and add a three-eighth cent sales tax that would be devoted to public safety.

Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show Wednesday, Tommy May was asked about that.

Morning show host Greg Horne told May that he had heard that the tax generates about $5 million annually and May confirmed that figure is accurate. Horne then said Ryan Watley, the CEO of Go Forward Pine Bluff has talked about the Public Private Partnership and asked May how much money has been generated from that partnership.

Horne then said that $20 million was money that Pine Bluff wouldn’t have were it not for the efforts of Go Forward Pine Bluff, calling that “Hugh.”
May agreed, saying this.
