Last year, Maxwell teamed with State Optical Co. for a line of sunglasses, and a portion of the proceeds went to provide scholarships to teens in black and brown communities. Now he’s back with another limited-edition style, which will benefit the same worthy cause.

The new titanium sunglasses are called STATE x Maxwell BLACK_SUMMERS’_NIGHT, named after Maxwell’s trilogy of albums, the first two installments of which were released in 2009 and 2016. His next album, blacksummers’NIGHT, the final chapter in the trilogy, will be out this spring.

The style is described as “incorporating 70’s flair with soul vibes and subtle details.” “Being really hands-on in the creation process, from beginning to end, has been very special and lends to the authenticity of the collection,” says Maxwell in a statement.

The sunglasses are available in three colors: a midnight blue frame with brown lenses, a rose gold frame with light pink lenses, and a chrome frame with light aqua lenses.  A pre-sale starts on February 14, with the shades becoming widely available on March 1.

As before, a portion of all sales will be donated to The Vision Council’s Opening Your Eyes Scholarship, which provides full tuition for two years, an internship, and mentorship to high school seniors who hope to become optometrists.

Maxwell says, “We’re excited to see everything these students will achieve, and I feel grateful to play just a small role in helping them reach their future career…Our scholarship honorees continue to inspire me daily.”

Maxwell’s NIGHT tour, featuring Joe and Anthony Hamilton, kicks off March 2 in Dallas. They will perform 25 shows in cities including New Orleans, Chicago, Detroit, and Oakland. The tour wraps in Miami on May 8.
