Pine Bluff police are investigating a late-night shooting after a wounded man flagged down an officer for help Monday night.
According to the Pine Bluff Police Department, an officer was stopped by a 33-year-old man at approximately 11:17 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, in the 600 block of East 24th Avenue. The man was covered in blood and had yellow duct tape wrapped around his left arm.
The victim told police he had been standing in his yard when he noticed a younger black male walking down the street. Believing he recognized the individual, the man said he called out the name “C.J.” In response, the younger male reportedly became upset and told him, “I ain’t C.J.”
The victim said the confrontation then turned physical.
According to his statement, the younger male punched him, and he struck back, knocking the suspect to the ground. While on the ground, the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm, shot the victim, and then fled the scene.
The injured man was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.
Police say the suspect has not been identified, and the investigation remains ongoing.
