A $75,000 secured bond was set for a Pine Bluff man accused of breaking into a storage facility, stealing a truck and trailer, and possessing methamphetamine at the time of his arrest.
Pine Bluff District Judge Kim Bridgeforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge 58-year-old Johnny Burger with Commercial Burglary, Attempted Commercial Burglary, Theft by Receiving, Possession of Controlled Substance Schedule I, II Meth/Cocaine Under 2 Grams, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Reading from an affidavit, Prosecuting Attorney Jim Williams said that on July 10, deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a rental storage facility. The owner was monitoring surveillance cameras remotely when he observed an unknown man, later identified as Burger, allegedly breaking into the facility, operating a truck and trailer, and accessing storage units.
Deputies located the described truck and trailer leaving the area and conducted an investigative stop. Burger was unable to provide registration information, and deputies determined the vehicle had been reported stolen and was registered out of Athens, Arkansas.
Investigators later discovered Burger had allegedly attempted to access three additional storage units. Bolt cutters with fresh cut marks were found inside the vehicle. Burger was interviewed and advised of his Miranda rights. A search of the truck and trailer reportedly found approximately 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia that tested positive for methamphetamine residue.
Burger is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 2.
