A $5,000 secured bond was set for a Pine Bluff man accused of stealing a woman’s vehicle and selling it to a junkyard.
Pine Bluff District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge 65-year-old Gregory Alverson with Theft by Receiving.
Reading from an affidavit by Pine Bluff Police Department Detective Mariah Shelby, the Prosecuting Attorney said that on July 22nd, officers were dispatched to 700 Henry Wilkins III Drive in reference to a stolen vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a person who was making the report on behalf of their mother. The person told police that around June 18th, Alverson allegedly accessed the woman’s vehicle without permission and took it.
Investigators learned the vehicle had been taken to a junkyard, where police were able to identify Alverson as the person who sold it.
Officers were also advised Alverson drove a white van and later located a white 1997 Dodge van with disabled tags.
Alverson was detained without incident.
He was advised of his Miranda rights and signed a waiver acknowledging those rights before providing a statement to investigators.
Alverson has prior felony convictions and is scheduled to return to court on September 21st.
