Pine Bluff’s annual Independence Day fireworks show will return this year after the city’s Advertising and Promotion Commission stepped in to organize the event following the Pine Bluff Festival Association’s decision not to move forward with its original plans.
The fireworks display is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. July 4 over Pine Bluff Regional Park and Lake Saracen.
City officials describe the event as a drive-up only celebration and ask attendees to remain in their vehicles while watching the show.
According to A&P Executive Director Sheri Storie, the commission began organizing the event after learning the Festival Association would not be hosting the annual display.
The A&P Commission worked with the fireworks vendor and secured the necessary arrangements to continue the longstanding Independence Day tradition.
Parking will be available at the Jefferson County Courthouse, Saracen Landing and the Regional Park softball fields.
The fireworks will be presented by Display Partners of White Hall, which will also conduct the City of White Hall’s Independence Day display later that evening.
The Pine Bluff fireworks show is expected to be the largest in southeast Arkansas.
The Pine Bluff Festival Association had coordinated the city’s annual fireworks celebration for roughly the past 20 years.
Festival Association Director Kerry Battle said the organization paused its plans after facing challenges securing a licensed and bonded fireworks contractor and changes affecting available funding for the event.
Battle said the association is assisting with coordination for this year’s show.
