More Info Released About Drowning at the Aquatic Center As It Remains Closed

Mayor Vivian Flowers office, which has taken the lead on the investigation into a drowning at the Carl Redus, Jr. Aquatic Center has released information that the drowning victim was an 84-year-old woman from Fordyce.

In her statement, the Mayor said “On behalf of the City Of Pine Bluff, I extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the individual who passed away following yesterday’s incident at the Carl Redus, Jr. Aquatic Center. Our hearts are all with those affected during this difficult time.”

Flowers’ statement said the incident occurred on Thursday, while all emergency records show it was on Wednesday. The facility will remain closed throughout the weekend, while staff continues to evaluate facility operations, review safety procedures and ensure that the Aquatic Center remains a safe, secure and welcoming environment for all who visit.

Police say a lifeguard noticed a woman floating in the pool at the center at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. She was pulled from the water and they began CPR.
