Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office Reports Busy Week, Recognizes Dispatchers

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office reported a high level of activity for the week of April 11-17, according to Sheriff-elect Brad Young, who also took time to recognize dispatchers during National Telecommunicators Week.

Young praised dispatchers Erica Rogers Best, Lynn Rawls, Theresa Whatley and Kristy Evans for their service, noting their ability to remain calm in high-stress situations while handling both dispatch and jail duties.

“They remain calm and composed in high-stress situations, and we appreciate their commitment to excellence,” Young said.

During the reporting period, deputies responded to:

— 1 assault
— 1 custody issue
— 6 disturbances
— 5 domestic disturbances
— 4 citizen standby assists
— 2 trespassing calls
— 3 welfare checks
— 1 littering case
— 5 suspicious activity calls
— 1 criminal mischief incident
— 2 alarm calls
— 2 accidents
— 2 animal complaints
— 9 ambulance calls
— 5 fire calls dispatched

Deputies made four arrests, including:

— 3 for disorderly conduct
— 1 for careless or prohibited driving

Deputies conducted school walk-throughs at Rison, Woodlawn and Kingsland Alternative campuses and worked school zone traffic throughout the week.

Circuit court was held April 14, and district court was held April 16.

Authorities also reported formal charges filed this week against several individuals:

— John Moya — three counts of theft of property, breaking or entering
— Taylor Magness — three counts of theft of property, breaking or entering
— Leah Long — two counts of theft of property, breaking or entering
— Jerry Marshall — possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia
— Herman Austin Jr. — possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
— Michael Best — fraudulent use of a credit card
— Christopher Kitchen — possession of a firearm by certain persons, fleeing, resisting arrest
— Charles May — simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by certain persons
— Jason Barnett — first-degree battery
— Jordon Hooks — terroristic threatening, possession of a firearm by certain persons

Young encouraged residents to remain vigilant and stay safe as the department continues its work across the county.
