A $75,000 cash bond was set for a Pine Bluff man accused of holding his girlfriend hostage during a prolonged assault and threatening her life.
Pine Bluff District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge 26-year-old Chidra Thomas with Aggravated Assault on a Family or Household Member, 3rd Degree Domestic Battering, Kidnapping, and 1st Degree Terroristic Threatening.
Reading from an affidavit, the Prosecuting Attorney said officers responded to a residence regarding a domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with a female victim who was initially in shock and unable to speak but was able to identify Thomas as the person involved.
After an unsuccessful search for Thomas, an officer spoke with the victim, who stated the incident stemmed from an argument that began the previous night.
The victim told officers Thomas battered her and threatened her life while she attempted to leave the residence.
Officers later observed physical evidence consistent with her statements, including injuries she sustained during the incident.
Thomas was taken into custody on July 20th.
During an interview with officers, Thomas initially claimed he did not know the victim.
He later changed his statement, saying he did know her but did not know her last name.
Thomas has prior convictions for domestic battery and commercial burglary.
He is considered a habitual offender and is currently on probation out of 1st Division.
Thomas was ordered to have no contact with the victim and is scheduled to return to court on September 16th.
