Arkansas Gas Prices Climb Ahead of Memorial Day as Drivers Face Higher Costs

Arkansas drivers are continuing to see higher prices at the pump as Memorial Day travel approaches, with statewide averages climbing in recent weeks.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Arkansas was just under $4 this week. That marks an increase of about 10 cents compared to last week, roughly 35 cents higher than a month ago and more than $1 above prices recorded in early May 2025.

AAA officials said fluctuations in crude oil prices continue to play a major role in fuel costs, particularly as global markets react to ongoing conflict in the Middle East. While prices have not increased as rapidly as they did earlier in the conflict, officials said drivers should still expect elevated fuel costs heading into the busy summer travel season.

AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria also noted that fuel prices can vary significantly from one community to another depending on several regional factors. Supply and demand, the number of stations in a given area and transportation logistics involving fuel depots and refineries can all affect local pricing.

With increased holiday travel expected, AAA is also encouraging drivers to keep up with regular vehicle maintenance to improve fuel efficiency. Officials recommend routine oil changes, properly inflated and rotated tires and addressing engine warning lights before taking longer road trips during the summer months.

AAA said proper maintenance can help vehicles operate more efficiently and improve fuel economy during extended travel.
