Billie Joe Armstrong has premiered a cover of “A New England,” a 1983 song by English folk musician Billy Bragg.
The new recording is part of the Green Day frontman’s “No Fun Mondays” cover series, although he actually dropped it on Friday.
“Welcome to No Fun Monday on a Friday because no one knows what day it is anyway,” Armstrong says.
“A New England” was also covered in 1984 by singer Kirsty MacColl, whom you may know from The Pogues‘ Christmas classic “Fairytale of New York.”
“I love this song penned by Billy Bragg,” Armstrong says. “Also a great version by Kirsty MacColl.”

Armstrong launched “No Fun Mondays” back in March, and promised to release a new cover each week “until we’re let back out into the world,” though recently hasn’t stuck to the weekly schedule.
Some of Armstrong’s covers include” I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tommy James & the Shondells, “Manic Monday” by The Bangles with Susanna Hoffs, the Adam Schlesinger-penned song “That Thing You Do!,” John Lennon‘s “Gimme Some Truth,” and “Kids in America” by Kim Wilde.
Additionally, Green Day released a cover of the Blondie classic “Dreaming.”
