Lady Lions Take Down New Orleans 3-1 On the Road; Extends Win Streak to Two Games

NEW ORLEANS, LA — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team rallied after losing set one to secure a 3-1 victory (19-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-22) against the New Orleans Privateers Friday on the road at Human Performance Center.

Ashanti Butler finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Lady Lions offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .444. got 10 digs from MacKenzie McDowell along with six blocks from Laila Fortson to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Lions found themselves in an early hole, losing a tough first set 25-19. UAPB trailed by as many as six points as New Orleans grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was notted up eight times before the Privateers took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 2 | UAPB fired back from a first-set loss to take set two 25-11, tying the match at one set apiece. The Lady Lions took control of the set lead early on at 4-3 and never looked back. UAPB led by as many as 14 points at 23-9 before finishing off the set. The UAPB offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | UAPB built on that second-set success with a victory in set number three to open up a lead at two sets to one. The Lady Lions led from the first point on in the set to secure a 25-22 victory. UAPB opened up as much as a six point lead at 22-16 before closing out the set. The UAPB offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 4 | UAPB ended the match with a 25-22 fourth-set victory, winning their third set in a row. The Lady Lions persevered in a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team was able to grab a lead larger than four points along the way. UAPB got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five New Orleans attacks in the stanza and capitalized on 13 New Orleans attacking errors on the way to victory.
