Golden Lions Knock Off Florida A&M For Their Second Consecutive Victory

PINE BLUFF, AR —The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) men’s basketball team shot 53.6 percent from three-point range on the way to a 99-97 victory over the Florida A&M Rattlers at home Saturday at the H.O. Clemmons Arena in front of a pack house on Greek Night. The win over the Rattlers gives the Golden Lions their second consecutive win in conference play.

The Golden Lions had five players score in double figures, led by Rashad Williams, who had 27 points and two steals. Joe French tacked on 21 points and Kylen Milton chipped in as well with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

UAPB shared the ball well in Saturday’s game, racking up 21 assists on 30 made field goals. Individually, Lonnell Martin led the way for the Golden Lions with six assists.

How It Happened

After falling behind 44-30, UAPB went on an 8-0 run with 2:49 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Caleb Stokes, to narrow its deficit to 44-38. The Golden Lions continued to close the gap, cutting the Florida A&M lead to 46-42 by the end of the first half.

UAPB narrowed its deficit to 57-54 before going on an 8-0 run to seize a 62-57 lead with 12:19 to go in the contest. The Rattlers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still held on for the 99-97 win. UAPB shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting nine shots from deep to score 27 of its 57 points.
