Golden Lions Come Up Short in Conference Loss To Jackson State

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions fell 40-14 to Jackson State at home Saturday afternoon at Simmons Bank Field.

Mekhi Hagens paced the Golden Lions rushing attack by accumulating 59 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Kierston Rogers also added 19 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

The most prolific target for UAPB quarterbacks was Daemon Dawkins, who caught seven passes for 57 yards.

Isiah Ward led the UAPB defensive effort, collecting three tackles, 2.0 TFL, and two sacks. Kyre Williams added four tackles and one interception and Grant Ewell Jr. had seven tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack in the loss.

Defensively, UAPB held up fairly well against the Jackson State rushing attack, holding the Tigers to 102 yards on the ground. The Golden Lions defense lived in Jackson State’s backfield all game, piling up four sacks.

How It Happened

UAPB responded to an early 23-0 Jackson State advantage with a second quarter touchdown to narrow the deficit to 23-7.Jackson State increased its lead to 26-7, but the Golden Lions responded with a touchdown to cut into the lead to 26-14. The Golden Lions didn’t score again in the game and Jackson State added 14 more points to seal the victory on the road.
