Jefferson Regional hospital received 975 doses of the new coronavirus vaccine Tuesday morning, and numerous healthcare workers were the first to receive the vaccination.

Latasha McGown, an RN on the COVID floor of the hospital, was the first to receive a vaccination in the hospital. She said it is a blessing to be the first person to receive the vaccination at the hospital.

“I think it is a blessing to be the first person,” said McGown. “I am glad that I can show people that it is okay to have the vaccine so we can help them stop the spread of this terrible disease. I don’t think people really understand how bad it is but working on the front lines every day it gives us a different perspective. I just want to do anything that I can do to help.”

Others who received the vaccination after McGown includes Latosha Love, RN, Dr. Naznin Jamal, and Dr. Nick Willis.

Brian Thomas, President and CEO of Jefferson Regional hospital gave his thoughts on being one of the first hospitals to receive the vaccine in Arkansas after the hospital had the first confirmed case in the state of Arkansas in March.

Thomas also said that his doctors and nurses on the front line of the COVID floor take their job very seriously.
