With 54.6 percent of the total votes cast, current State Representative Vivian Flowers has defeated incumbent Mayor Shirley Washington and won the Democratic Party’s nomination to be the next Mayor of Pine Bluff.

Complete but unofficial results were as follows:

Flowers 2,569

Washington 2,137

Flowers served in the state legislature for 10 years before announcing her intention to run for Mayor and finished second to Washington in the March primary election in a six-person race.

She spoke with Morning Show host Greg Horne who told her she took a big gamble leaving the legislature and running for mayor but it obviously paid off.

She was also asked what she planned to do over the next eight months to prepare to take office.

In another race, political newcomer William Fells easily defeated incumbent Third Ward City Council member Glen Brown Sr., who was seeking another four-year term.

Complete but unofficial results were as follows:

Fells 903

Brown Sr. 355
