On Thursday, the Farm Bureau of Arkansas held its 87th annual convention in Little Rock.

Farm Bureau President Rich Hillman told Deltaplex News the annual meeting culminates the hard work that has taken place in every county in the state over the past year.

Hillman said the strength of the organization is the grassroots count boards that exist in every county in the state.

“They’re the ones that drive our policies,” he said.

Agriculture in Arkansas is a big industry and Hillman was asked about its prominence in Southeast Arkansas.

One out of every six or seven jobs in the country is related to agriculture.

Hillman was asked if part of the problem was farmers not producing as much, or if the issue was logistics, getting the products from the farm to the stores.
