In a sequel to the “Metallica contributes music to a Disney film” story, we now have “former Disney Channel star recording Metallica covers album.”

Yes, the one and only Miley Cyrus is working on a record featuring her spin on the metal legends. She revealed the news during a conversation with fashion designer Rick Owens for Interview Magazine.

“We’ve been working on a Metallica cover album and I’m here working on that,” Cyrus said from an undisclosed location.

“We’re so lucky to be able to continue to work on our art during all of this,” she added, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic. “At first, it felt uninspiring and now I’ve been totally ignited.”

Cyrus also shared that Iggy Pop inspired her movements on stage.

Before you act too surprised at Miley going metal, Cyrus has proved her rock bona fides before. She impressed many with her rendition of Temple of the Dog‘s “Say Hello 2 Heaven” during the Chris Cornell memorial concert, and she made headlines just last weekend with her take on “Zombie,” by The Cranberries. Cyrus also covered Metallica‘s “Nothing Else Matters” during her Glastonbury set last year.

As for that Metallica Disney song, drummer Lars Ulrich told Collider in September that an orchestral version of “Nothing Else Matters” would be featured in the upcoming Disney film Jungle Cruise.
