A pleasant afternoon turned into a cold windy night at Taylor Field as the Dollarway Cardinals fell to Little Rock Episcopal. The Cards gave a valiant effort but dropped the contest 23-9.

The Wildcats got off to a fast start, scoring 9 runs in the opening frame and an additional 5 runs in the first five innings. The bats would wake up for Dollarway as they scored 2 runs in the bottom of the third, 3 runs in the fourth, and 2 more runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull within seven. Episcopal would answer, going up by eleven in the top of the sixth inning by a score of 18-7. “We spotted them so many runs in the first couple of innings we were worried about competing at that point.” said Dollarway Head Coach Greg Cleveland “Our kids battled the whole game. They battled and came back and kept cutting it, they would get back up again and we kept cutting it…” The Cards battled back in the bottom half, scoring twice to avoid the 10-run mercy rule and pull within single digits. The Wildcats would score 5 in the top of the seventh, the Cardinals couldn’t answer falling by the final score of 23-9.

The Cardinals will be back in action Friday, when they will travel to North Little Rock to take on the CAC Mustangs. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
