On Thursday, a divided Arkansas Supreme Court upheld the decision of a circuit judge that rejected a decision by the Arkansas Racing Commission to award a casino license to Cherokee Nation Businesses and Legends Resorts and Casino LLC.

The high court said Pulaski County Judge Tix Fox was correct when he said the decision Amendment 100 to the Arkansas Constitution which requires that the license be awarded to one group, not multiple groups as was the case by the commission.

On Friday, Carlton Saffa, Chief Market Officer for the Saracen Casino was a guest on the Oldies 1013 morning show and was asked about the court’s decision which morning show host Greg Horne described as “a good thing for Pine Bluff and Jefferson County.”

Saffa went on to say “nothing like that has happened in Russellville.”

Horne said he had been in Russellville recently and the people there are worried about what is going to happen “but it has been nothing but great for Jefferson County and Pine Bluff.”

Saffa was also asked if the construction was going as well as it was expected to at this point.
