A Pine Bluff man arrested Friday following the shooting death of another man will be held without bond while prosecutors prepare capital murder charges against him.

During a court hearing Wednesday, Deputy Prosecutor Mircha King told Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth that they would be seeking capital murder charges against Ronald Spraglin, 34, because they believe there was a “premeditated aspect” to the shooting.

The shooting occurred at 2200 W. 10th Ave. When police arrived, they found a male, later identified as Willie Buckley lying on his right side. Buckley was pronounced dead at the scene. They were also told that a second male, later identified as Spraglin, had been stabbed.  He was treated at the scene and taken to Jefferson Regional Hospital.

When detectives arrived and took over the investigation, they found a nine-millimeter handgun in a black high-top tennis shoe concealed in bushes at Spraglin’s aunt’s house and shell casings at the scene matched the shells in the gun.

King said the witness told police he was “100 percent sure Spraglin was the person he had seen walk up to the door of the apartment, pull a gun from his waistband, and fire shots.

The aunt was also interviewed and said this.

Detective Enrique Soto reported that Spraglin was not interviewed because he asked for an attorney. He was told to come back to court June 24.
