A Wabbaseka man with prior felony convictions was arrested Wednesday after he attempted to cash a fraudulent check.

Justin Spears, 33, was taken into custody after police were sent to Super 1 Foods on Hazel Street.

During a court hearing Friday, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer explained the circumstances that led to the arrest.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond for Spears after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with three counts of forgery. She also told Spears that he had too much income for her to appoint the public defender’s office to represent him.
