A $7,500 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man previously convicted of a felony after police found a gun in his pocket.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Khamisah Thomas, 25, as a felon possessing a firearm.

Reading from an affidavit from Detective Sgt. Michael Roberts, Deputy Prosecutor Mircha King said at 8:14 a.m. Tuesday, police were sent to 2015 Howard Drive where the homeowner reported a person was sleeping in the house.

King said police ran a criminal history check on Thomas and found that he had been convicted of a felony on May 1, 2018.

When Thomas was questioned, he said he was homeless and was told that the house was abandoned but had some beds in it. He said the front door was unlocked and he went in because he was cold. He said he went into the first bedroom and went to sleep and said the gun was for his personal protection.

Thomas was told to come back to court on Nov. 18.
