Arkansas State Head Football Coach Blake Anderson has confirmed his wife has lost her battle with cancer.

On Monday, Anderson announced he would take a leave of absence to be by his wife’s side. “There’s a celebration in heaven today because Wendy is Home,” Anderson said on Twitter. “Thank you so much to all who have walked, prayed, cried, and loved her through this brutal two-year battle.”

Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator David Duggan will serve as interim head coach until Anderson returns. “I will continue to be in communication with Coach Anderson both on a personal and professional level, but we will obviously respect and honor any amount of time he needs before he feels he can return,” A-State Athletics Director Mohajir said. “I have 100-percent confidence in Coach Duggan, our football coaching staff and student leadership on this team to move us forward with our academics and competition.
