The second-largest public retirement system in the state saw its investments increase by $1.09 billion, almost a 12.3% return.  The Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System’s investments now sit at $10.6 billion.

The system’s average rate of return is approximately 10.5%.

 

The system is the state government’s second-largest retirement system behind the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System.

The Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System is made up of 44,373 working members.  Those members have an average salary of $44,373.  The system also includes 39,805 retired members with an average benefit of $16,003 annually.

Local and state governments paid just under $300 million into the system in 2020.  The members paid $71.4 million.
