Construction efforts for the future Kingsland Amphitheater officially began Saturday, July 18th, with community leaders, volunteers and supporters gathering at Heritage Park for a groundbreaking ceremony.
The amphitheater is planned as a permanent community venue that will host concerts, festivals, school performances and other local events.
The project is being led by Kickstart Kingsland, with organizers crediting years of planning, fundraising and volunteer efforts from community members who helped move the project from an idea into the construction phase.
Kingsland Mayor Samantha Johnson, who also serves as executive director of Kickstart Kingsland, said the amphitheater is intended to serve as a gathering space for residents and visitors while supporting community events and activities.
Those participating in Saturday’s ceremony included Johnson, Cleveland County Judge Don Triplett and Kingsland City Council members Linda Burns, Lee Penister and Suny Blair.
Members of Kickstart Kingsland involved in the event included President Shannon Raney, Vice President Shannon Watt, Secretary Lauren Watt, Treasurer Denise Broughton and committee members Vickie Beverage and Mary Ann Franklin.
Paul Abeyta, operations manager for Kickstart Kingsland and head of construction for the amphitheater, also participated in the ceremony along with Paul Abeyta Sr. and Bubba Golden, who are involved in construction of the facility.
Phase one of construction is expected to begin July 25.
Organizers are targeting Sept. 26 for the amphitheater’s opening and the start of the Get Rhythm Music Festival, with a soft opening planned beforehand.
