PINE BLUFF AR. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff placed 174 student‑athletes on the 2025‑26 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) All‑Academic Team, underscoring the Golden Lions’ continued commitment to excellence in the classroom and in competition.
Student‑athletes from all 14 UAPB sport programs earned recognition by achieving at least a 3.0 grade point average during the academic year, as verified in the conference’s official All‑Academic listing. Honorees span high‑demand majors such as Health and Kinesiology, Business Administration, Biology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Agriculture and Engineering, reflecting the breadth and rigor of the university’s academic offerings.
“Being named to the SWAC All‑Academic Team is a tremendous achievement, and we are incredibly proud of our student‑athletes,” said Chris Robinson, Vice Chancellor of Intercollegiate Athletics. “They put in long hours in practice, in competition and in the classroom, and this recognition shows that their hard work is paying off in every area.”
UAPB baseball led the way with 34 All‑Academic honorees, followed by football with 32 and women’s softball with 21 selections, demonstrating competitive success matched by academic consistency across high‑roster sports. Men’s and women’s basketball combined for 16 honorees, while both cross country/track & field programs, women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and men’s golf added dozens more to the academic tally.
The list of Golden Lion honorees includes standouts such as Spencer Watson (Baseball, Agricultural Engineering), Dennis Asoro (Men’s Basketball, Health and Kinesiology), Ty Ackerman (Football, Accounting), Ruth Banjoko (Women’s Basketball, Health and Kinesiology), and Danika Bryant (Softball, Biology), among many others representing programs across campus. In addition to balancing team travel and training, these student‑athletes are pursuing degrees that prepare them for careers in business, STEM, education, health professions and public service.
“This is the type of accomplishment that reflects our entire department,” Robinson added. “Our coaches recruit the right young people, our academic staff supports them every day, and our student‑athletes embrace the standard we’ve set at UAPB. We want our community and our conference to know that when you see a Golden Lion competing, you’re watching a serious student as well as a high‑level athlete.”
The SWAC All‑Academic Team recognizes student‑athletes from across the conference who meet the league’s academic criteria, and UAPB’s strong showing reflects the department’s strategic emphasis on recruiting students prepared to succeed in the classroom. Full individual listings are available through UAPB Athletics and the Southwestern Athletic Conference office.
