The Sheridan School District has announced the hiring of Chance Cleveland, a Pine Bluff native, as the Yellowjackets’ new head baseball coach for the 2026-27 school year.
The district’s Board of Education approved the hire at its monthly board meeting Monday night.
Cleveland currently serves as the head baseball coach at Beebe High School, where he has more than 100 wins since 2019 and was named the 5A Central Coach of the Year in 2024.
While at Beebe, Cleveland led the team to its first postseason appearance in more than a decade, earning back-to-back state tournament berths and a 2025 semifinal appearance.
Cleveland previously served as assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach at Malvern from 2015-2022.
During that time, the Leopards reached the regional finals three consecutive years and advanced to the state semifinals twice.
“Chance Cleveland is, first and foremost, a tremendous man of character,” said Sheridan Athletic Director Rick Treadway.
“He has a big-time passion for coaching baseball and building young men to be the best they can be. Under Chance’s leadership, we fully expect Sheridan to continue its proud tradition of competing for conference and state championships.”
Cleveland holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Secondary Education degree, both from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. As a player at UALR, he was a two-time All-Sun Belt selection and served as team captain. He and his wife, Alex, have three children.
